This classic beach chair has been remodeled for public spaces and provides relaxed seating throughout the year. Strand is designed as a single chair and a sofa. Made in wood and iron. The Four Seasons parasol is a sturdy year-round design that deflects the heat of the sun and provides shelter from the rain. Made from sheet steel edged with silicon, the parasol bolts securely to the ground to withstand gusts of wind and inclement weather. Designed with a striking profile that tilts away from the base, Four Seasons adds a contemporary element to gardens and courtyards, or any environment where shelter and shade are needed. Four Seasons will shade you in summer, shelter you on rainy autumn days and protect you from snow in winter. Throughout the year it will stand as a reminder of lazy summer days on the beach.

Conventional wooden slats form the seat and backrest of this undulating bench, but its design is completely unique. Crafted in an expressive, swooping form that balances atop three structural supports, the bench is made with maximum comfort in mind. One of the first park benches to be accompanied by a footstool, the design invites those seated to put their feet up, or just sit back and relax. The laid-back luxury of this bench makes a unique addition to any public space. Photo Johan Kalen

It's not often that a litterbin looks so good that you're reluctant to throw trash into it, but the smooth contours and gleaming surfaces of Hinken could make you think twice. Yet at the same time, its efficient plastic-fibre and steel design has created an economical and ergonomic means of placing rubbish where it belongs: out of sight. Free of any embellishment or decorative details, the litterbin is discreet enough for modern museums, galleries and other design-conscious places, yet conspicuous enough to get noticed easily.   The magazine holder "Subway" is inspired from the classic advertisement pillars with layers and layers of posters. Subway's powerful expression makes it an expressive ingredient in all kinds of public areas. The standalone cylindrical model lends itself to placement in the middle of the room where the magazines are accessible from all directions. Textile-covered rubber bands keep the magazines in place. Subway is available in three different heights as a floor standing model, and for wall mounting.

A wood basket must be easy to carry. Easy to clean underneath and have a peculiar idiom. It was these thoughts I had when I designed the wood basket Log, where the contrast between the rough hewn birch and white, soft forms conveys a modern, naked expression. Photo Christopher Norgren

The outdoor washing line is making a comeback as a low-energy alternative to tumble dryers, and its classic shape has also inspired this efficient coat rack. Made from lengths of hemp cord strung between steel pipe posts, Hampa’s simple shape can be easily installed and quickly stored away. Hampa is a novel design that combines tradition and innovation, and is as suited to retail fashion displays as it is to coat checks, hallways or reception areas. Available in black or white.   The texture of Velvet is that of a textile lamp shade where the material drops distinctly and naturally. The armature is made of aluminium but to bring out the feeling of heavy velvet fabric the thickness of the material is 4 mm. Velvet is in its shape simple and obvious with precise proportions of the material. Light and subtle pastel colours makes the armature ethereal and easily correlated with its surroundings. STRANDEN
(the beach)
Design Thomas Bernstrand 2008
Commissioned by The City of Stockholm. Architecture by Sylvia Kornstad, Grontmij

“Stranden” (the beach) is the name of a new permanent outdoor seating group. It’s placed in Rosenlundsparken, next to "Skatteskrapan" on the south island in the center of Stockholm. The sculpture measures 140 square meter with seats for 50 people. The park was opened in May 2008. All furniture and umbrellas are made so that the park can be open and used all year around. A huge lamp will light up the park at night and during the dark winter Stranden will remind the deep frozen Swedes of summer, holiday and lazy days at the beach. Photo Nicho Södlig
